2006 - 2007

21 October 2006 to 05 October 2007
Jewish Year, 5767

Dear Torah Student: Some weeks you may not be able to complete the Torah portion of the week. Nevertheless, find time to share an insight with your Torah partner on what you have been able to read. We always look for spiritual progress, not spiritual perfection, in our Torah study. The LORD blesses even our smallest efforts.

The first column is the Shabbat on which the Torah portion is read. The second column is the Parashah name, the name of the Parashah is taken from the first words of the Parashah (portion) in Hebrew. The last two columns provide the biblical references for the parashah and the haftarah readings-the latter is usually a reading from the Prophets and adds a reflection on the parashah.

The cycle begins again, on 06 October 2007, with Parashat Bereshit (Genesis 1:1-6:8)
and the
Haftarah, Is 42:5-43:11.

...And so the cycle of Torah readings continues, year after year, in (almost) every synagogue in the world (some synagogues use a three-year cycle). The parashah and haftarah readings in this schedule follow the Ashkenazi readings list. When a parashah coincides with a special Shabbat there is a different haftarah reading Sometimes English translations vary slightly in numbering for chapters and verses.

Maria Cecilia Piccoli of Curitiba, Brazil who voluntarily prepares our Portuguese transaltion of the parashat hashavuah each week.
